The Gulf of Lava

The Gulf of Lava includes two main communes: Alata and Appietto. The "Natura 2000" site occupies 150 hectares between the rocky hill of Punta Pelusella to the north and the low sandy terrace to the south, near the Lava stream. Between these two points: a white sand bank of almost one kilometre.

The development of the site
  • On the natural zone:
The dune is protected by equipment located directly on it
  • Along the "urban" part:
Access to the site is provided by landscaping, including pontoons, footbridges and soft paths
The objectives of the development
  • Progressive restoration of environments
  • Protection of plants such as the yellow line
  • Protection of animals such as the cistude or Hermann's turtle
Management of the site

The site is managed by the Communauté d'Agglomération du Pays d'Ajaccio (CAPA).
Quality reception is the key word: bathing area, selective sorting bins, showers, chemical toilets.

Moving around the beach is made easier.
There is a special parking area for people with reduced mobility (PRM). Once on the sand, a mat for access to the sea is at their disposal as well as two tiralos available at the first aid post.
The first aid post is set up in high season (July and August).
