THE VILLAGE

Altitude: 471 metres

Although it is surely the smallest village of the Ajaccio hinterland, and the most distant from Ajaccio (18 kms), Tavaco benefits from a remarkable natural setting.

Tavaco is known for its heroic past and its spirit of resistance.
This village has been plundered and destroyed many times by various invaders, such as the Moors and the Genoese.

St Martin's Church

At the top of the village, the church of St Martin watches over its inhabitants. In the past it was called "Notre Dame des Victoires".
An anchor adorns the altar. It is said to symbolise a victory over invaders.
