Follow us on the road to the Sanguinaires Islands

Published June 27, 2022

Today we're taking you to the seaside. With this fine weather, what could be more pleasant than strolling along the coastline?
Put on your sneakers (because we're going to be doing a few miles) and follow us!

From the marine cemetery to the Scudo

Heading for the road to the Iles Sanguinaires. Our starting point: the marine cemetery. Its urban layout gives it a mini-town feel, with streets, squares and little chapels facing the sea. Famous and not-so-famous alike.

Next, we head for Scudo, where the family estate of singer Tino Rossi (now Maison des Illustres) is located. He is buried in the marine cemetery.
The beaches of Barbicaja,Ariadne, Neptune, Marinella and Scudo, along which we walk, each have their own straw huts. Whether for lunch, a drink or dinner, they all offer a magnificent view of the Iles Sanguinaires archipelago.

From Scudo to the Sacred Land

The statue "La Méditerranée" turns its back on the Iles Sanguinaires. This work by Max Herold exists in several versions, one of which stands in the Jardin du Carrousel at the Tuileries in Paris.
Behind it lie the beaches of Cala di Sole (on which one of the scenes in the film "L'Enquête Corse" was filmed), Weekend Beach and Sacred Earth Beach. The latter is home to one of the 6 markers erected worldwide in memory of French and Allied soldiers killed or maimed during the Great War.

From Macumba to Parata

Only a few kilometers to go, and you've reached the Parata peninsula. This place deserves its title of Grand Site ". The Genoese tower at the tip of the point watches over thearchipelago of the Iles Sanguinaires. Made up of 4 islets, Mezzu Mare is the one that can be visited via sea walks (departing from the town center).
Ecology and ecosystem awareness days are organized on a regular basis (waste collection, botanical tours...).

If the Parata site is THE ideal place for a family stroll, it's also the starting point for the Sentier des Douaniers (also known as the Chemin de la Corniche). In about an hour's walk, you can reach the magnificent Capo di Feno beach.
Come and see us at the Tourist Office to obtain our topo guide, which gives a step-by-step description of this hike (and many others!).

To get back to our starting point, we have two options. Walk back (or run for the more sporty) or take the beach bus. What if next time we came back on an electric bike?
