Historic site and monument
st erasmus church
The church is located in the old town, in Via Forcioli-Conti. Built in 1622 by the Jesuits, it was first dedicated to St Ignatius of Loyola. In 1815 it was placed under the invocation of St Erasmus, patron saint of sailors. Inside, there are many ex-votos in the form of ships or boats. For some sailors it was a way of placing themselves under the protection of their patron saint. For others, it was a sign of gratitude after a successful expedition. The church also houses several processional statues of Christ on the cross and a statue of the patron saint. St Erasmus is celebrated every year on 2 June by the fishermen of Ajaccio. (religious ceremony, animations, concerts, meals....)
