What to do in the Ajaccio region?
The Place De Gaulle (or Place du Diamant) marks the separation between the old town and the new districts. Facing the sea, you can admire the monument (1865) dedicated to Napoleon and his four brothers, built on the plans of Violet-le-Duc. Because of its shape, it was nicknamed "the inkwell".
The statue of Napoleon I on horseback, dressed in Roman style, is the work of the sculptor BARRY, Lucien by THOMAS, Joseph and Louis by PETIT and Jérôme by MAILLET.
